Things done and undone

Since last I posted:

  • Baked some cookies after rediscovering an old chocolate chip recipe that makes a good, flat, chewy cookie dotted with bits of chocolate, rather than the barely-enough-crunchy-starch-to-hold-the-chocolate-together Tollhouse version popular with most of humanity.

  • Ate all the cookies.

  • Baked some experimental banana bread that as a big success. Sorry, I forgot to take any picture of it, but suffice to say, mini chocolate chips, a pinch of cinnamon, and wheat beer add up to loaves with an amazing rich flavor.

  • Read some comfort reads.(Penric & Desdemona novellas)

  • Composed a scary email, sent it to a group of folks, and received enough replies to reassure me that I’m not the only person in the world who thinks it would be fun to hang out in my house mostly not socializing for an afternoon or evening. Might not be many folks, but non-zero is good.

  • Launched another “never saw this when it aired” TV series-viewing, (Grimm. WEIRD show. I disbelieve real people would ever make 80% of the bad choices the characters make. The “Do these writers know any real people?” problem has gotten really obvious since one character had a baby. But it’s pretty, and the mythology is fun, so I keep watching the train wreck plot.)

  • Scheduled a big trip for next spring, went to lunch with friends, visited the Botanic Garden and didn’t get caught in a massive thunderstorm afterwards, played a bunch of online puzzles and tablet games, harvested veggies and cleared out a garden box for fall greens, finished the Monday Nights With Leverage: Redemption rewatch with Wil, made a bunch of summer pickles from the garden produce, started the research phase of shopping for a new computer, dealt with a bunch of tedious digital account updates, annnnnd…

…and that’s about it. Except for writing this post. Funny, it looks like a lot more than it feels.

Notably absent from the list, any mention of writing. I’ve done some, but it’s all been on my not-for-public-consumption ranty l’il blog. Because the world just keeps giving me reasons to feel sad, aggravated and angry at various members of humanity whose actions are making the world a demonstrably worse place with every passing day. And typing out my feelings and opinions is immensely preferable to letting it all build up inside.

Thenext few days are gonna be exciting because I have family coming in to town, so the guest bedroom will actually see use as a guest bedroom, and I get some quality fun chat time with my sister. What shall we do? NO IDEA! Go some places, see some things, mainly hang out and talk a lot.

One thing for certain, fun will be had. Check back soon for a report. Meanwhile, cat pics:

the latest in silly poses, sleeping while lying on his own tail.

Someone is feeling better, so he’s getting into mischief.

That’s all for now. Until later!
