Good Monday Things

Huzzah, Herkes House has working internet again! That’s a good thing and one thing crossed off the Busy-busy-Busy list all in one.

Good thing 2: the speed we're getting now matches the speed we pay for. (The real test will be this evening when Everyone In The Neighborhood is online, but I am HOPEFUL.)

Good thing 3: an astonishing lack of hassle canceling the old service. Like, only 2 voice menus, a 3 minute hold, & 5 minutes with a rep, no sales pitch, no foot-dragging. We chatted about storms in the Southeast while things processed.

Second Busy thing of the day also went well—we had a consultation meeting about getting actual custom-measured, professionally blinds. And that’s a GO! Measurements tomorrow, final sit-down to lock in price next week, blinds will go up…late summer, maybe?

For those remotely interested in designer stuff, here’s my pedestrian taste in window coverings: single-cell cellular blinds, cordless, top-down/bottom up. Also, if you ever have to choose blinds, that’s the hierarchy of choosing before you get to light-filtering level, and only THEN should you choose a color.

We’re going with a light filtering white in front for maximum airiness and happy afternoon glow. The back room is getting blackout-style earthy green blinds. Blackout to fend off hot summer morning sunshine and also to foil the next-block-over neighbors’ Absurdly Bright Night Security Lighting all year round. Green because we liked the color and it won’t be awful against the gross yellow walls until we can repaint. Next year? Next decade? Whatever.

Will this be expensive? Fuck yeah. Are they necessary? Nooooooo, not exactly. I have cheap blinds up in all the windows that would be embarrassing without some coverage. But will these fancyass new blinds massively improve our enjoyment in those rooms? Hell, yes. So we’re doing it.

(By the way, when I am Queen Of The World, dual light filtering/blocking cellular shades will be available in the top-down/bottom-up cordless style. Also double-cell blinds will be available in pleat sizes wider than 1/2.” But that isn’t the world we live in, so we picked the best matches from what exists.)

Busy thing three involved trips to Home Depot and Costco for moving supplies and a bunch of random things I’ve been adding to lists for about a month. Spouseman navigated the whole “shopping with an ADHD spouse in mutiple warehouse stores” experience with great skill and notable patience.

I only lost him twice. Three cheers for cell phones & the ability to text one's locations to others.

And a rousing huzzah for dinner already being made (I cooked chili & med cheesy biscuits over the weekend) and enough essential groceries collected that we call the whole week’s errands done.

The household has now settled in to enjoy a nice afternoon/evening of rest. Spokesman’s back online enjoying his Helldivers game without network lag or dropouts, Pips is snoozing on the couch, and I’m up in my office taping cardboard boxes together.

Truly it's been a Magical Monday.

That’s all until later!

No, wait, there is one more thing!

Behold, an email signup box. Not a popup, though. I hate pop-ups, so I don’t do them. My subscribe boxes will simply sit here at the ends of my posts all friendly, patient, and unobtrusive. But here, where one can easily find them if they’re wanted.

Pic of sleepy kitty.
