It’s Gonna Be A Busy Summer
And the already-busy Spring is still ramping up to Maximum Busy.
The first life lesson from this week is: when you have extra time before an appointment to discuss a major home improvement project, do NOT stop by the home improvement big box store to look at unrelated Long-Delayed Project Possibilities. That way lies Additional Future Projects.
The second life lesson is: Internet Service Providers SUCK.
Hmm. Clearly it’s one of my “I want to capitalize every word” days. You are duly warned.
Anyway. Operation: Fancify Floor 2 (O:FF2) s officially a go! Deposit is paid, and we have a start date & an expected end date. Demolition begins the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Estimated completion is the Friday before Labor Day Weekend. That time block astonishingly does not overlap or conflict with any of our other plans for the year.
But it does mean we’re packing the upcoming next 4 weeks with Rather A Lot Of Shit To Do:
Begin Phase 2 of Operation: Let’s Never Do This Again (O:LNDTA, basement sump & drain installation). Flooring gets ripped out, trim removed, bench taken out, appliances relocated maybe.
Get Window measurements done & selecting blinds for the windows replaced 18 months ago.
Switch to new internet provider, with attendant new modem setup etc.
Selections meeting for fixtures, paint colors, trim materials, and so on for O:FF2.
Begin O:LNDTA Phase 3, Install The Drainage and Sump. Estimated Time of completion 1 week.
Begin O:LNDTA phase 4: Reconstruction. ETC? Unknown. Hopefully less than a week, because there will be professional movers hired for O:FF2 Phase 2, Move All The Upstairs Shit Downstairs, and if the timing works out juuuuust right, they could also assist with O:LNDTA Phase 5—Move All The Basement Shit Back.
Prep for O:FF2: box up/cull books, box up/cull clothes & linens, map out where to put things, set up temp home for Main TV out of the construction traffic zone, move all fragile arts n stuff to Safe Storage for the duration.
Schedule and accomplish O:FF2 Phase 2, MATUSD. I would feel bad about making other people haul bookcases, desk, dressers etc down all the narrow stairs and around corners, except that well, that’s what they do. They’re professionals.
Production walk-through of the second floor with the project manager, designer, and construction leads.
Then the REAL fun begins.
Meanwhile, outside, the street in front of our house looks like this.
Technically that’s how it looked yesterday, it’s actually much quieter today since they’ve moved onward to the end of our block. So, nothing’s actually made the walls shake today. Still plenty of beeping and roaring and the occasional shout, though.
The village swears we will not lose street of driveway access for more than very short times, but I’m still glad they’re getting it done now, before our house stuff really gets going. Also glad that the subsequent road resurfacing (also scheduled for this year, because wheeeeee, timing!) probably won’t overlap with the majority of the construction at our place. Probably. Fingers crossed.
At least we don’t have lead service lines that need replacing. Silver lining, there. Lots of our neighbors will have trenching being done right up to their houses. Eeek.
But I digress. My point, not that there really is one, is that if it seems like I’m Even More Scatter-Flaky than usual, it’s that I’m juggling more than the average number of Life Details long with various writing projects I am still very much making small progresses on, every single day.
So, that’s the latest from here. Until later!
