Messing With A Sonuvabitch

(that’s the song currently playing. Oddly appropriate.)

So my current biggest beef regardng the Current Political Situation in my country is with the utter wrongheadedness of nearly everyone’s reaction.

(all the usual caveats and disclaimers apply — I know I am not seeing a comprehensive picture, my news consumption is curated and careful, and I am nowhere near the center of any specific action, so my perspective is necessarily skewed and my take is incomplete etc etc)

BUT. THAT SAID.

People talk about how close we are to civil ar, about how dangerous the President’s Private Racist Army is getting (ICE/CBP) They will make horrified reactions about the propaganda, hagiography and whipping up of mobs done by The President’s Private Thought Police (Turning Point USA and its ilk)

But they do it by bemoaning the death of civil discourse, they clutch at their pearls and murmur hopeful nonsense about fighting in the courts, and defending free speech, and good intentions, and surely they won’t keep doing this, and so on…

We’re ALREADY at war, FFS. More people need to wake up and recognize that.

It’s only at the early-skirmishes stage, but there is a military conflict happening on US soil, no ifs, ands or buts about it. It’s violence perpetrated by the Federal Government on its own citizens, with those citizens fighting back in organized ways. “Violence between organized forces within the same political state” is the definition of civil war.

Oh, sure it isn’t “The Army” doing the attacks, it’s CBP/ICE, sometimes with support from the National Guard, which are technically state forces, but that’s splitting hairs in a way to obfuscate the facts. Violence is being committed by an army on the residents of its own country. ON ITS CITIZENS.

The only reason we aren’t already in a full-on obvious bombs-dropped, mortars-fired civil war yet is that the opposition has so far eschewed higher levels of organization and most of those involved have chosen to remain mostly non-violent. So the news can keep calling opposition events “protests” and not “skirmish and retreat exercises.” Kinda like the way they keep calling ICE’s assaults “immigration enforcement” when they’re actually racist strikes.

My pessimistic prediction is the peaceful option will become less and less viable until and unless the private army is stuffed back into its legal box or better yet, disbanded.

More likely, it’s going to get worse and worse until states themselves begin to organize militarily against it. My study of history makes me suspect there are alliance plans and political alternatives already being made, quietly, via in-person meetings and with logistics work done on air-gapped computers or old-fashioned ink and paper.

Gonna be interesting to see how Illinois fits into the new order. Swear to God I never expected my research about a future Illinois declaring independence and going rogue to end up happening. (And by my research, we’d need to take Wisconsin and some of Minnesota or the UP with us to make it work economically long term. We need the Great Lakes and a land border with Canada for trade…but I digress)

ANYWAY. The United States is becoming less united with every assault by the Federal government on its own citizens. Homes are being burned, parents and children are being shot in front of their families (and no, I do not mean Charlie Kirk’s assassination, I mean victims and bystanders in ICE raids) People have been detained with zero explanation held without legal representation. People have been disappeared in the thousands.

Our president has bragged about building a fucking concentration camp FFS.

BRAGGED about it.

And most people are just sipping their lattes and shrugging or worse, cheering it on. Worst yet are the folks murmuring yes it’s bad, but something does need to be done about immigration, the government surely won’t do anything baaaaad.

We’re messing with a sonuvabitch who commands the largest military in the history of the WORLD, and the only thing that sonuvabitch wants form life is for people he thinks are important to do what he wants them to do. Everyone else is less than human and wholly expendable.

One of these ICE confrontations is going to go horribly wrong. There’ll be martyrs on both sides.

(and one of my biggest sadnesses is that the Bad Guys are much better about making martyrs than progressives are.)

I’d like to hope we’ll get through this National Revision without pitched battles and bombs deployed, but I very much doubt it.
