Jan 16 Thought Bubbles

Somehow it’s Thursday night already, and I’m wondering where the week went. Time to fight my feelings of having done nothing by writing things out. Yes, folks, it’s time for a LIST!

  • Monday was Office Day

    • convention prep for Capricon and Minicon

    • paid bills

    • stressed over sales taxes & collected paperwork for Income Tax Season

    • did research. Some for stories (geography of southern Illinois, apartment building layouts, definition of garden basement) plus hunting online for reviews of electric space heaters. (two inhabitants of Herkes House are quite happy at 67-68 degrees. But me? I likes my office toasty warm.

  • Tuesday

    • surgery follow-up went well, I am approved for All Activities, including baths and picking up the 22-lb cat whenever I want. The unskin should resorb in 3 to 6 months, and I am to “ramp up slowly and not do too much at once.”

    • So I immediately went on a big Costco run, then shoveled snow, and then a work shift at the ‘brar.

    • But I also took a really long bath. Happiness is a hot bath in a really deep tub after a long and muscle-achy day.

  • Wednesday was All The Laundry Day, and also “order a space heater“ day. That was it, except for my ‘brar shift. I did sleep late, all the way to 10 AM after I overdid things on Tuesday. I got some writing done, though, so yay for that.

  • Today

    • the Big Accomplishment of the week happened: I got a new phone. Why now? Mainly because if I waited any longer, a New Version would get released, and I hate to get the Newest New until it’s proven to work properly.

    • Also finally recycled the dead iphone 8, 2014 ipad & 2013 laptop that had been languishing in drawers forever. Hooray for electronics Recycling Dropoff!

    • Tonight I picked up an extra shift at work to cover for a co-worker.

    • Between returning from Phone Expedition and hiking to work, I fit in a lunch break, set up & tested the new space heater in my office, and made some final decisions on where I want to hang art.

Okay, so whew, I guess it has been a fairly full week. Tomorrow will be another mostly-downtime day. Getting to know my new phone’s fancy features, taking a walk to the grocery store & bakery for Essential Subzero Survival Snacks, and maybe hanging some of that artwork.

My weekend goal is to write Izzy and the cat past the laundry room confrontation and get them upstairs to meet Natalie Eleanor.

I’ll let you all know how that goes in the next post.

Or! OR! if you like your local library, you could request a purchase. Free for you, sale for me, everyone wins.

Most libraries need the following info for ordering print books:

  • Title: Relics From A Traveling Show

  • Author: K. M. Herkes

  • ISBN: 9781945745201 (paperback)

Every library system does things a little differently, but most want their collections to serve their communities, so most of them are very responsive to patron requests.

If you like novels more than short stories, I recommend my series The Rollover Files for hopepunk tales of about an alternate world where moms with midlife crisis superpowers have been saving the world and making the military nervous since 1943.

I also have a completed, quirky slow-burn science fiction thriller duology with a romance chaser: The Stories Of The Restoration.

All my titles are available from Amazon, Apple, Kobo, Hoopla, Barnes & Noble, Bookshop.org, Overdrive and many other fine booksellers.
