The Done Bucket

It's been a long week, and a busy one. Pippin looks as tired as I feel.  It's been stressful for him, too. Lots going on.

Before I get into that, let me digress a bit about the post title.

I'm sure you've all noticed I use this blog to list off things I've finished or advanced so I don't forget that yes, I really do things and don't just dream about them. Daily Life Lists in one form or another have been my most consistent type of post over the years.

But I haven't I done a good one in weeks or longer. Wanna know why? (I hope so, I'm gonna tell you anyway.) Short answer: brain weasels. Longer answer, filed under "Stupid Reasons not to do a thing," it started to bug me that the phrase "life list" properly belonged to birders and naturalists counting animals.

Yup, I went into avoidance mode because my subconscious decided I shouldn't use a specific phrase as a title because what I was doing didn't fit the most restrictive definition. Brains, yanno? Can't live without them, always learning new ways to work around 'em.

So I kept slamming into a mental wall whenever I just wanted to record accomplishments. And once I recognized the avoidance I had to figure out the cause. And then I got tangled up in finding a clever & satisfying new label, because of course I did. Because I couldn't post without a mental label to file the post under.

I love organizational tools like recurring categories. I'm crap at being consistent about sticking to my own organizational outlines, but I do love having them.

I kinda like Done Bucket, so I'll try to a) remember it and b) tag it for my various life stuff posts so you can ignore those if you like.

So the "first" thing in this Done Bucket post is:

I made another new recurring post title for the blog! <cue the celebratory fanfare>

Other random mundane accomplishments of the recent while:

  • fully charged the new car's battery AND drove it places on EV only.
  • stocked up the pantry with indulgent foods & necessities.
  • tested the car's battery storage life by not leaving it plugged in. (5 days, minimal loss. Very pleasing)
  • scattered lights and silly decorations around the yard
  • trimmed 6 pavers clear of creeping thyme overgrowth. Yes, by hand. With scissors.
  • worked 2 extra library shifts to cover for sick co-workers
  • watched all of Sliders. 0/10 do not recommend, but I enjoyed it thoroughly until halfway through the final season.
  • made a fancy pork roast dinner for Paul & me to celebrate decorating outside.
  • Raked up the last of the (finally fallen) leaves and mulched them into the garden.

Hm. I haven't taken any yard pics recently. I'll have to take one at night.

Today is a crash/rest day, but Spouseman and I are already midway through the indoor part of Operation: Ward Off The Midwinter Gloom. It looks a lot like Christmas holiday prep but inevitably involves a ton of things that have nothing to do with decorating because that's how project creep works. Tomorrow, the trees go up.

Yes, we have multiple holiday trees. That's a long story for another time.

Until later!
