Silly joke, big smile
The silly joke set up involves minor dental trauma, so if teeth are a trigger for you, just skip this one, okay?
Usually dental traumas are my territory, what with my genetically awful tooth enamel, childhood years spent in a no-fluoridated water area, and jaw alignment issues. But this time, it was Spouseman's teeth that decided to be problematic.
He has an old filling. (One. As opposed to my I've-lost-count collection, mostly replaced by crowns and in some cases root canaled out beneath the crowns.) I think he might have three or four cavities in his life. At most. But I digress.
Silly Joke. Right.
That tooth continued to trouble him off and on for a long time, because it was a large filling. Then a few years ago, part of the remaining tooth around the filling cracked off. That bit was replaced by a resin chunk of the same material the filling's made of.
Today another piece of tooth gave up the ghost, so Spouseman went back to the dentist for emergency repairs worried that it would need a crown or a root canal.
When I texted him from work to get an update, he had reassuring news. The tooth root is sound and there's no decay, all is well, the remaining tooth is fine so they just replaced the new broken piece today.
I joked that he was getting a crown on the installment plan, and he said...
No, it isn't a crown by increments, it's the Tooth of Theseus.
It was a silly little joke, I did warn you, but I'm still smiling over it hours later, because I am a nerd.
Here endeth the post.
Here beginneth the regularly scheduled other stuff.
