Capricon is coming!

So, as I've mentioned in other posts, I'll be at Capricon again this year. (see the graphic for details, or hit up Capricon.org)  I'll have books in the vendor area, sharing a table with friends again as usual. It turns out sharing a table is an extra-good idea this con because WOW I have a lot of panels. (Not compared to other people, perhaps, but compared to my own past experiences.)

I'm pretty stoked about that, I love paneling. Some of my tablemates have pretty packed schedules too, so it's a good thing we're not ALL on ALL the same panels.

And because I'm a sharer, here's my Capricon panel schedule. The format is Title, room/day/time/description.  There's more info on the Capricon website itself, like fellow panelists.  I am not daunted at all to be on a reading panel with Cecilia Tan. Nope, I am TOTALLY NOT KERMIT FLAILING.

AAGGGH WHAT SHOULD I READ?!?  If you have ideas, suggestions, or a scene you've always wanted to hear/see me read, now's the time to speak up!

Ahem.  Anyway.  Here's my upcoming schedule o' fun.

More Capable Than You:

Columbus • Thu 3:30 PM–4:30 PM Writing and developing characters who happen to be smarter than you can be daunting. How do super geniuses and hyper-capable characters behave? How do you reflect that in your character design while still making them believable and approachable? Our panelists explore the myriad ways you can do just that!

Hopeful Science Fiction and Fantasy

Gold Coast • Fri 10:00 AM–11:00 AM. For every dystopian tale, SFF presents us with hopeful alternatives. Indeed, one can turn to SFF, new and old, to find hope in a world that is sometimes all too dark. Our panelists discuss some of their favorite works of hopeful SFF from yesteryear and right now to help spark some joy in your life.

Professional Organizations for Writers

Columbus • Fri 1:00 PM–2:00 PM SLF, SFPA, SFWA, and RWA aren't just acronym soup. These organizations are ways for authors to network, learn about their craft, and more. Current members will discuss what these organizations offer and how they can benefit you.

Writing While Neurodivergent

Columbus • Fri 7:00 PM–8:00 PM What challenges does neurodivergence create for writers? How do writers manage their differences and challenges in order to meet deadlines, produce works, and not allow their neurodifferences to derail them as they write? Our panelists tackle these questions and more.

Autographing: Herkes/Guilfoyle

Autograph Tables • Sat 11:30 AM–12:15 PM

Reading: Herkes/Jorgensen/Tan

Bridgeport • Sat 2:30 PM–3:30 PM. KM Herkes, Jeanna Jorgenson, and Cecilia Tan read from their works.

The Many Hats of a Creative

Gold Coast • Sat 4:00 PM–5:00 PM In the present market, freelancers (artists and writers) are expected to be marketers, bookkeepers, customer service reps, production and distribution managers, and more. And they do all that in addition to writing and/or making art. But how exactly does one manage all of that? Our panelists talk about some of the tips, tricks, and tools you can use to make the ancillary work easier to manage!

Libraries of the Future

Streeterville • Sun 10:00 AM–11:00 AM Are Libraries and librarians here to stay or will they be phased out by technology? What will a library look like in 100 years?

Writing Older Characters for Younger Readers

Columbus • Sun 11:30 AM–12:30 PM Whether they're parents, grandparents, elderly neighbors, or mysterious helpers from a bygone era, older characters often play a role in stories written for young people. Yet, some presentations of older characters engage in stereotypes. Our panelists take a look at some of the dos and don'ts of writing older characters for younger readers.

And just in case any of you are coming to Capricon too, here's a handy link to add my things to your own online schedule. https://guide.capricon.org/ids/170~93~177~165~247~215~64~20~155

The bestest part of all this? There's still plenty of room in there for me to attend panels, especially the fun late night ones.

And that's plenty of words for one post. Until later, friends.
