In a strange fluke of nature, ibuprofen pills lose most of their painkilling effectiveness when they aren't actually taken. Even more shocking, leaving the pills somewhere doesn't count as “taking them.”

This message has been brought to you by “Why aren’t my painkillers kicking in? Oh, I look, I forgot them on the counter again: A Perpetual Mood.”

I hear some people are trying the “remember to swallow the pills” strategy, but I don’t know if it’ll catch on.
